Residents of Valley Grove, near Charlton Athletic FC, are welcoming plans for a new playground in the heart of their estate.
Work begins next month on the new multi- age playground, which will feature:
- swings and slides
- climbing frames
- skating areas.
There will be something for everyone from toddlers to teenagers.
Upgrading local play spaces
The play space is being upgraded in line with EC regulations. It’s the first playground to be upgraded under a four-year plan to refurbish play areas across the borough.
Local people have been working closely with the Council on choosing play facilities they would like to see in their area.
Space to play and exercise
Councillor Maureen O’Mara, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services, said:
"We hope this new playground will provide a much-needed play area for the youths and young children of the estate to enjoy and spend their time playing and exercising. We hope it will also help to reduce antisocial behaviour in the area."
Resident's group
Greenwich’s Community Participation Team is planning to set up a new residents group to help look after the new playground.
