As the nation turns its attention to green issues for Recycle Week (2-9 June), we would like to thank local residents for your ongoing support of the new weekly recycling system, which has seen recycling figures rise dramatically in recent months.
The total recycling figure for both mixed dry recycling and compostable waste is now at almost 42% compared with 23.6% in 2006/07.
Councillor Rajwant Sidhu, Cabinet Member for Greener Greenwich says: "This is an incredible result, especially considering that the new service has been operating for just four months. With continued support we can expect even greater success from this service over the coming months."

Nappy collections
The Council also provides a weekly collection service specifically for disposable nappies, which cannot be recycled and take a very long time to break down. Residents with small children using disposable nappies can register for the service and we will provide a supply of orange nappy sacks which will be collected weekly.
As an alternative to disposable nappies, parents and carers are also being advised about ‘real’ nappies. They are an environmentally friendly alternative to disposables and can be washed and reused, which means less waste to throw away.
