Beware if someone offers you a bargain, it may not be all that it seems.
A number of one day sale scams have been operating in the borough where people have literally been sold a load of old rubbish.
The sales crop up at old or derelict premises and people are being duped into buying a bag of "bargains" for £10, £20 or more after buying a smaller bargain.
More often than not the bag turns out to contain empty boxes or damaged or inferior goods.
Investigation in Woolwich
Council Trading Standards officers visited a premises in Woolwich last week and removed stock as evidence of possible criminal infringements. At the time of writing the premises has ceased trading.

Be cautious
Cllr Maureen O’Mara, Cabinet Member for Neighbourhood Services, said: "A surprising number of people have been taken in by this scam and cannot get their money back because of worries over the ‘heavies’ who seem to deal with complaints.
"I would urge people to be very cautious about such sales and to have nothing to do with them."
