Gold medal for health and safety

Greenwich has been awarded a prestigious Gold Medal Award to celebrate five years of first-class health and safety management.

The Council received the commendation, which is only given to local authorities who have successfully achieved five consecutive Gold Awards, in the Royal Society of Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) Occupational Health and Safety Awards 2008.

RoSPA’s national awards recognise excellence in health and safety, by reducing the number of accidents and cases of ill-health in the work place, and the good health and safety management systems that lower these incidences.

To achieve such a high-standard of improvement in these awards, Greenwich demonstrated improved procedures and a reduction of accidents throughout the authority.

Commitment to continuous improvement

Council Leader, Chris Roberts said,

"The safety of our employees is a top priority and this special award, for five-years of first-class heath and safety, demonstrates Greenwich Council’s commitment to continuous improvement.

"The Council achieve these high-standards, year on year, through good training and raising awareness of hazards to staff - and the award is thoroughly deserved."
