Keeping active: pupils show off their dancing skills
Pupils at Alderwood primary school are jumping for joy after winning a major sports award.
The school has been awarded a Sport England 'Activemark' in recognition of its commitment to:
- promoting physical activity
- teaching children the importance of staying active
- providing sporting activities both inside and outside school.
Celebrations
Pupils were joined by the Mayor, Councillor Sajid Jawaid, and Eltham MP, Clive Efford to celebrate their achievement.
During the festivities pupils demonstrated their Playleader scheme, which involves Year 5 and 6 children taking on leadership roles to organise games and activities for the younger children. Two groups showed off the dance skills they had been able to learn as part of the scheme.
Health for children
Cllr Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:
"This award emphasises the importance that Greenwich schools place on the health of children. It is so important that children get regular exercise and I would like to congratulate both staff and children at Alderwood for their exemplary efforts."
