London 2012 roadshow set to get underway at Greenwich Sportathon

Keep Friday 15 June free for a spectacular range of events taking place at the Royal Artillery Barracks in Woolwich.
There will be:

  • finals of the Greenwich Sportathon
  • the launch of London 2012's national roadshow
  • the third of this summer's Council Great Get Togethers.
With so much variety, there's bound to be something for everyone.

Greenwich Sportathon

The Greenwich Sportathon takes place at the Barracks from 11 - 15 June.

Sixty schools are expected to compete in the opening heats on 11, 12 and 13 June.

Finals day will be 15 June.

London 2012 Roadshow

Finals day will coincide with the launch of the London 2012 national roadshow. This will put Greenwich’s role as a host borough for the 2012 Games back in the national spotlight.

The roadshow will run until September. It will cover Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and all nine English regions. The aim is to inspire and motivate people of all ages to take part in sporting activity.

You will be able to:

  • visit information stands
  • watch sports demonstrations
  • take part in sporting challenges.
You might also get to meet Sebastian Coe, the London 2012 Chair, who will be attending the event.

Great Get Together

As our third Great Get Together of 2007 kicks off, you will find a range of family activities and entertainment, including those aimed at the under-fives. You will also find stalls containing information on Council services.

The ever-popular Talk Café will be on hand to give you the opportunity to share your views on local issues, while enjoying a hot drink and other refreshments.

Come on down

Councillor John Fahy, said, "The first-ever Sportathon was a major success and this year’s event is set to be even bigger and better. With the 2012 London Games just five years away, events like this are an integral part of our plan to encourage more young people to play sport.

"It’s an honour that the 2012 organisers have chosen to launch the national roadshow here in Woolwich and with the third in our summer series of Great Get Together events also taking place, it’s a great opportunity for residents to come down, enjoy the entertainment and find what’s going on with Council services."
