"Let us cross safely, no delay"
Residents and traders have been taking to the streets to campaign for safety improvements to a busy road crossing in West Greenwich.
The Council is backing the campaign and Deputy Leader Cllr Peter Brooks joined a roadside protest last week. Residents are demanding that a pedestrian crossing is added to the traffic lights across Blackheath Hill, at the junction with Greenwich South Street.
The Council has been told that the improvement is in Transport for London’s spending plans but that it is unlikely to be implemented before October 2007.
Making roads safer
Cllr Brooks said, "This is a very busy trunk road and I fully support the wishes of local residents to see the road made safer for pedestrians to cross.
"The Council is pleased that Transport for London has agreed to include a pedestrian crossing phase within the traffic lights, but I share the concern of residents who want to see this introduced as soon as possible."
