Thousands enjoy Eltham Lights Up 2006

The annual Eltham Lights Up celebration hosted an array of special entertainment to mark the beginning of the festive season last Thursday, 23 November.
Thousands attended the parade, which saw Eltham High Street lit-up with a colourful and lively display of:

  • floats
  • street entertainments
  • music
  • fireworks.
This was all topped-off with the switching on of the Eltham Christmas Lights.

Pupils from many of the borough’s primary schools took part by displaying hundreds of lanterns that they had made in the weeks running up to the event.

Talk Café

As well as an evening full of performances and processions, residents also had the opportunity to meet with their local Councillor in the Talk Café.

Here they had the chance to ask questions on the issues most important to them, and to put messages up on the Talk Café message board.

Great way to start the festive season

Councillor Chris Roberts, Greenwich Council Leader, said,

"The Eltham Lights Up celebration was a huge success and it was very good to see residents really enjoying the array of entertainment we had in store. With street performances, live music and special firework displays; it was a great way to mark the beginning of the festive season.

"This year’s event also gave visitors the chance to talk to the Council about the services we provide. We received some very useful feedback in the Talk Café, which will really help us to further improve our services and to meet to the needs of local residents in the future."
