Schools praised by Ofsted

Government inspectors have given their seal of approval to three schools and one nursery in Greenwich following a series of recent Ofsted inspections.
The schools were:

  • Christ Church Primary in Shooters Hill
  • Brooklands Primary in Blackheath
  • St Thomas More Roman Catholic Comprehensive in Eltham
  • Rachel McMillan Neighbourhood Nursery and Extended Day Care in Deptford.
All were commended for their excellent work and were all rated as “outstanding” in the overall effectiveness category.

The three schools were acknowledged for having a number of strengths and for progressing well since their last inspections, while Rachel McMillan Nursery was extremely impressive in its first ever inspection.

Christ Church

Christ Church were congratulated on the school’s excellent leadership and management qualities and the school’s continual attempts to improve even further.

Pupils have also set exceptionally high standards in national tests and assessments, which was partly attributed to the outstanding teachers at the school.

Praise was also given to the great emphasis that the school places on developing the children as well rounded individuals.

St Thomas More

St Thomas More received praise for their work on the personal development and well being of each child on an academic and personal level.

The students were also judged to be very well behaved and to have excellent relationships with their teachers. This contributed to excellent attendance levels and examination results.

The schools success was also helped by excellent leadership and management at all levels.

Brooklands

Ofsted inspectors at Brooklands agreed with parent’s assessment that pupils are inspired by the school.

The success of Brooklands was judged to be underpinned by outstanding leadership and management, especially from the headteacher.

A strong partnership between governors, staff, parents and pupils was deemed to have contributed to improving standards, which had risen consistently since the last inspection.

Pupils’ personal and social development was also seen as outstanding, as was the quality of care provided for pupils and the range of activities planned for them.

Rachel McMillan

The Ofsted inspection on Rachel McMillan Neighbourhood Nursery and Extended Day Care reported that Rachel McMillan had achieved such high levels of quality and standards of care that no recommendations for improvement could be made.

The inspection stated that children are given excellent opportunities to engage in physical play which enables them to gain regular exercise and develop their physical skills. Children were also judged to enjoy what they do and achieve well.

Hard work is paying off

Councillor Jackie Smith, Cabinet member for Children and Young People’s Services, said, "I am delighted with the continuing improvement of our schools. This shows that the hard work of staff and students is definitely paying off.

"I would like to offer my congratulations to all four establishments and encourage them to continue the good work and continue to look at ways to progress further."
