Noisy neighbours

Three of the borough’s worst noise polluters were silenced earlier this month. A string of noise offences in their local neighbourhoods cost them hundreds of pounds in fines.
The prosecutions took place at Woolwich Magistrates' Court last month. They resulted in the culprits paying a total of £850 in fines and having their offending hi-fi equipment permanently seized by the court.

The offenders were from:

  • Edington Road, SE2
  • Lawson House, Nightingale Place, SE18
  • Coldharbour Crest Great Harry Drive, SE9.
They were prosecuted after several complaints from their neighbours lead to an investigation from the Council’s Noise Call-out Service.

The Noise Call-out Service works in partnership with Greenwich Safer Neighbourhood Teams and the police, to ensure residents are protected from anti-social neighbours.

Anti-social behaviour 'will not be tolerated'

Councillor Maureen O’ Mara, Greenwich Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Community Safety, said:

"Cases like these are a reminder of how some people can have a total disregard for the community they live in and the people who live around them.

"The offenders in these cases were notified on several occasions of how their actions were affecting the lives of their neighbours, and repeatedly reminded of the action they would face if they continued.

"The Council will continue to work with the police to crackdown on offenders like these until we drive home the message that this type of anti-social behaviour is totally unacceptable."
