It’s Noise Week - sshh!!

It's National Noise Action Week from May 22- 26. If you're planning a party or barbeque, please consider your neighbours and keep the volume down.

Got noisy neighbours?

If noisy neighbours are getting you down - give Noise Line a call using the number on the right.

We are about to introduce regular summer operating hours for the Noise Line. The service will be available during weekend afternoons from the beginning of June to the end of September.

This extends the existing service for residents suffering unreasonable noise during the evenings.

High price to pay

The Council’s Noise Team receives about 3,000 complaints a year. Half of them are resolved with no action being taken.

However, last year the team served over 100 abatement notices, with home entertainment equipment being seized in 20 cases.

Subsequent court action led to fines ranging from £200 to £2,000. Costs were awarded of up to £1,000.

Under the Police Reform Act 2002, noise offenders can now be made subject to anti-social behaviour orders (ASBOs), with the Police having powers to arrest those who continue to offend.

Be considerate

Cllr Maureen O’Mara, Greenwich Council’s cabinet member for environment and community safety, said, "As summer comes in and the days get warmer and longer, many of us look forward to a good barbecue or party.

"However, I would encourage residents to think of their neighbours and to remember that some people's enjoyment can be someone else's misery - most particularly when it comes to noise.

"In our experience most small disputes can be resolved by a little common sense on both sides. The Council is determined to help the victims of regular and anti-social noise, and where we have the evidence we will take tough action against persistent offenders."
