Mayor of Greenwich - Cllr Harpinder Singh
Meet the new Mayor of Greenwich - Cllr Harpinder Singh.
Cllr Singh was welcomed to his post at a Mayoral Inauguration Ceremony on 24 May at the Painted Hall, Greenwich University. He is also the ward member for Woolwich Common.
Mr Singh was elected as a Councillor to Greenwich Council in 2002. He is on many Council committees and has a special interest in education, children’s services and older people’s services.
He is a School Governor at Nightingale Primary School and a keen supporter of Charlton Athletic.
He is married with three children and works as a Test Development Engineer for a leading Electronics Manufacturer.
An honour and a pleasure
After being officially handed his badge of office by Cllr Dr Paul Tyler, the former Mayor, Cllr Singh said:
"It is an honour and a pleasure to serve as Mayor in what I consider to be the most exciting borough in London.
"I will maintain the high standards set by my predecessors, particularly Cllr Dr Paul Tyler, who has shown enormous commitment to his civic role and the charities he has endorsed during his mayoral term."
This year’s Mayoral charities are the Demelza Children’s Hospice and Greenwich Mind.
Deputy Mayor
This year's Deputy Mayor is Cllr Sajid Jawaid, ward member for Plumstead.
