The Council’s Neighbourhood Resource Centres for Older People have received national recognition by winning the Public: Private Finance Award 2006 for best operational local government project.
Cllr David Grant - Cabinet Member for Health, Adults and Older People - accepted the award at a function at the Grosvenor House Hotel on 23 May.
The award was made jointly to the Council and Kier Project Investments.
About the centres
In 2002, the Council commissioned ASK (Greenwich) – a consortium comprising Kier Project Investments and Shaftesbury Housing Group – to provide three Neighbourhood Resource Centres for Older People at a cost of £24 million.
The centres cater for more than 160 residents at:
- Time Court in Charlton
- Meadows House on the Kidbrooke Estate
- Ash Green in Woolwich.
They provide a range of residential, nursing, intermediate and day services on a single site.

The award recognised that there are few social care public / private finance initiative schemes. The Council developed its own model after undertaking consultation that found traditional residential care models were unlikely to meet the borough’s future needs.
Improved health
Cllr Grant said: "This award represents important recognition of the Council’s record in providing quality care for the borough’s older citizens.
"It is particularly pleasing to receive this award because it recognises that the health of many residents has improved through the public-private finance initiative."
