Pupils performing on stage
Students from Kidbrooke School and Arts College have been treading the boards at the Greenwich Theatre this month with a special one-off performance of their school play.
Around twenty pupils from years seven to 11 performed their adaptation of The Shoemaker’s Incredible Wife.
The one-hour play, written by Spanish playwright Lorca, included great characterisations, dance performances and even a puppet show.
Pupils were also involved in creating the set, directing the lighting and controlling the sound throughout the play.
Promoting theatre for youth
The play was presented in partnership with National Theatre Shell Connections, one of the world’s largest organisations for Youth Theatre.
Since 2005, pupils from Kidbrooke School have been working with the National Theatre to promote independent theatre visiting from students.
The project, known as Entry Pass, is the National Theatre’s membership scheme for young people aged 16-19.
It costs nothing to join, and gives members a whole range of benefits, including tickets on Entry Pass evenings for just £5, backstage tours and the opportunity to have discussions with play writes.

Great project
Councillor Jackie Smith, Greenwich Council’s Cabinet Member for Children and Young People’s Services, said,
"This was a great project for the pupils of Kidbrooke School to take part in. It’s great to see our young people having the chance to get out of the classroom and experience some of the different ways there are of learning a subject."
In 2005 Kidbrooke School achieved 34% A- A* grades and 77% A-C grades in drama.
