We have hit the halfway mark in our mission to bring all Council houses up to the national Decent Homes standard by 2010.
Last year a record £35million was spent on new kitchens and bathrooms in 3000 of the Council’s 25,000 properties.
This means the number of Council homes that now reach the Government’s Decent Homes standard is just over half - 50.3%.
The total spend on your homes in 2005/06 was £56m. A further £50m of investment is expected this year.

What happens next?
Phase 2 of the Council’s renovation programme is expected to be completed next year, and Phase 3 will start this autumn – together tackling the remaining 49.7% of homes that need improvement.
Improving energy efficiency
Greenwich has also hit new levels of energy efficiency in its homes. The Standard Assessment Procedure (SAP) rating rates our Council homes as among the most energy efficient in London.
Improvements like loft and cavity wall insulation, new boilers and double glazing last year moved the council’s SAP rating up two points to 69 on the 120 point scale - among the top quarter of London Councils.

Looking forward
Cllr Peter Kotz, Greenwich Council’s cabinet member for housing and neighbourhood renewal said: "We’re delighted to have reached the halfway point in our programme to improve local homes. It means even more of our tenants and their families are benefiting from better kitchens and bathrooms, greater comfort and warmth. And we’re now looking forward to completing the rest."
