Learning with laptops

Year nine students at Newhaven School will have the opportunity to own have their own laptop as part of the school’s Learn Anywhere scheme.
The scheme aims to ensure that students have access to the world of technology inside and outside of school.

Thanks to a grant from the Council, 18 pupils were given their own personal laptop this month, a further 12 students will receive theirs soon.

Flexible learning

The Learn Anywhere scheme makes it possible for pupils to continue with their studies and explore their educational interests beyond the classroom.

The flexibility that the scheme gives pupils is so beneficial to their long-term education that the school have integrated a price-plan into the scheme. This means they will eventually own the laptops and have the continued benefit of being able to work where is best for them.

Getting the best education

Councillor Jackie Smith, Cabinet member for Children’s Services, said,

"We’re always looking at the way in which we deliver the curriculum to ensure that our young people are getting the best education possible, and new initiatives like these are a great way of doing just that.

"The Learn Anywhere scheme reflects the developments that we are seeing in the modern working world, where many people are choosing to work from home instead of the traditional ways. By giving pupils the opportunity to experience this way of working at an early stage, we’re making them better equipped for the future."
