The Thames Clippers river service has been snatched from the jaws of death thanks to an agreement between the Council, Thames Clippers, Berkeley Homes and the London Development Agency.
The Clippers initial pilot period was due to end this month, but additional investment from the Council and its partners will allow the service to continue while a long term solution is agreed with Transport for London.
As well as the financial contribution, the Council supports the scheme through the free use of Woolwich pier.
When can I catch a Clipper?
The river boat services operate on weekdays from the Royal Arsenal Pier in Woolwich with fast services to Canary Wharf and Central London for as little as £2.
Commuters that use the service often can reap the benefits of a 33% reduction with an Oyster card.
Thames Clippers also offers a ‘River Roamers’ ticket that allows the holder to travel as many times as they wish on any given day.

- Waterloo.
The ferry service never gets held up by traffic, poor weather or tube problems.
Transport alternatives
Deputy Leader of Greenwich Council, Councillor Peter Brooks said: "I am delighted that commuters and residents will continue to benefit from the ferry services into London.
"As regeneration in Woolwich continues, new transport links play a crucial role encouraging more businesses to chose Woolwich as their base and provides even more options for those who require alternatives to the car."
