Green light for Charlton School extension

Charlton School is starting the new year with news of an extension that will improve facilities and enable students to learn together on one site.
At the moment students are split between one site at Charlton Park Road and a second site at Royal Hill in Greenwich.  The scheme will also create a Centre of Excellence for students with special education needs and an external play area.

The work will be phased to ensure that the school continues to operate without disruption during the period of the works.

Providing high quality education

Cllr Angela Cornforth, Greenwich Council Cabinet Member for Lifelong Learning and the Voluntary Sector, said:

"This is very good news for Charlton School and will enable staff to build on the excellent work they already carry out.

"High quality buildings and facilities are vitally important in helping maintain good standards in schools. This forms part of the Council’s commitment to providing high quality education for children with special educational needs."

Schools Re-organisation Programme

The scheme forms part of the Council’s wider Schools Re-organisation Programme, which included proposals to create two Centres of Excellence (for the primary and secondary age ranges respectively) for children with complex special needs.

The works are being funded from the Council’s capital programme and the DfES Building School for the Future programme.
