The Woolwich Crossrail campaign received a boost when delegates from boroughs all over south-east London and Kent showed their support for the bid at the Thames Gateway Forum.
The delegates – representing different political parties – were responding to a new-look petition to secure a station in Woolwich on the proposed Crossrail route linking east and west London.
Greenwich Council leader Chris Roberts, Greenwich and Woolwich MP Nick Raynsford and colleagues launched the new bid.
'Missing link'
This springs the campaign, which has been named the 'missing link' campaign, on to a new level.
Cllr Roberts was delighted with the wide support, saying it "demonstrates what a cross-party consensus there is for our 'missing link' campaign".
MP Nick Raynsford praised the campaign as "brilliant" and expressed confidence in the eventual outcome of the fight.
Bexley Council leader Ian Clement is also backing the campaign. He said, "A station at Woolwich would be an important catalyst for the regeneration of the town."
