A brand new jungle-themed mural was the subject of celebration at Alexander McLeod primary last week.
The mural was created at a series of storytelling sessions organised for the school's 500 pupils and any parents/carers who wished to attend. The sessions involved pupils listening to jungle-themed stories which helped inspire them to draw jungle animals.
The mural now takes up a total of three walls in the school - one large wall in the infant playground and two smaller walls in the junior playground.
Launch ceremony
The artwork was revealed at an official launch ceremony last Monday. The celebration continued as a procession of students left the school carrying home made Christmas lanterns and joined up with a similar procession from Boxgrove Primary. They then made their way to Abbey Wood Park for a spectacular fireworks display.
The idea for the mural was part of an initiative by Alexander McLeod to encourage parents to get more involved in school life.
Pleasant environment
Councillor Jackie Smith, Cabinet member for Children’s and Young People’s Services, said, "I am very proud of the achievements of Alexander McLeod Primary school and its parents and pupils.
"The Jungle Mural looks fantastic and as well as creating a pleasant environment for the children to play in, it also succeeded in getting parents and carers of pupils more involved in school life. Congratulations to everyone involved in the project."
