Extra police foot patrols will be on duty during weekend nights to help keep our streets safer during the festive season.
The additional officers will work on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings from 7pm to 3am. They will also work on New Years Eve.
Where will they be?
The patrol groups will cover:
- Greenwich
- Woolwich
- Eltham
- Plumstead.
Each team will consist of:
- one sergeant
- two police constables
- one police community support officer.
There will also be officers at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital who will be linked to the foot patrols. A police van will be on standby to provide back-up if needed.
Reducing alcohol related crime
These extra measures will continue until 4 January and they will be working closely with the Council licensing teams.
Similar additional patrols were used last New Year and during the World Cup. They played an important part in reducing alcohol related crime.
