Eltham Hill centenary

Students at Eltham Hill Technology College have been taking part in an array of special centenary-themed activities to mark the school’s 100th birthday.
The centenary week ran from 13 - 18 November. Students marked the occasion by decorating the school in special art displays and writing poems based on the anniversary. The school also ran a week of quiz and card-design competitions for students to take part in.

Special assembly

Former staff and students from more than 70 years ago were invited to a school assembly to recount their memories of the school.

Clive Efford, MP for Eltham, also attended to unveil a centenary plaque, while everyone enjoyed live music and entertainment.

Grand finale

The centenary week ended with a grand finale, where more than 350 guests, including students and staff from past and present, attended a special school reunion.

Visitors travelled from as far as Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Denmark, South Africa and Canada to take part in the celebration.

The evening was completed with an Eltham Hill student from the 1930 class cutting a centenary cake accompanied by two of the youngest members of Eltham Hill today.

A historical archive of Eltham Hill Technology College can be seen at the Eltham Hill website.

Great accomplishment

Councillor Jackie Smith, Cabinet Member for Children and Young Peoples Services, said,

"The centenary celebration marks a marvellous achievement for the borough.

"After more than 100 years of educating the young women of Greenwich and helping them to achieve with a Greenwich education, I know that everyone will join me in being very proud of such an accomplishment."
