Eltham Centre topped out

The new Eltham Centre played host to its own Topping Out Ceremony last week.

Topping Out is a traditional building ceremony which celebrates reaching the top floor of a structure being built.
The event was attended by Deputy Leader of Greenwich Council, Cllr Angela Cornforth; Clive Efford, MP for Eltham and Mark Tant, Managing Director of Willmott Dixon Construction Ltd.

When will the centre open?

The Eltham Centre will open to the public in Autumn 2007. It will be the first of three local service centres in the borough and will provide:

  • three new pools
  • an enhanced public library
  • a new branch of Greenwich Community College
  • access to a range of Council services
  • a café, gym, community spaces and crèche.

Improving the borough

Deputy Leader of Greenwich Council, Cllr Angela Cornforth said:

"The Eltham Centre is pioneering the way that we will deliver our services in the future.

"Through the huge range of facilities on site, the Centre will help us achieve our commitment to making the borough an excellent place in which to live, work, learn and visit.

"The Topping Out ceremony was a great way to acknowledge publicly how well the Centre is progressing and pay tribute to those who are working hard to complete the building on time and on budget."
