Town twinning meeting and Ghana party

Are you interested in joining the Council's Town Twinning Association?

The Annual General Meeting is at Woolwich Town Hall on Wednesday 16 February at 7.30pm.
The meeting is open to the public, although voting is restricted to current members.

Established friendships

Chair of the Town Twinning Association, Terry Malone, said: “I look forward to a good turn out for the Town Twinning AGM next week. As a borough we are proud of the friendships we have established with other towns over many years.

“These relationships provide a number of mutual benefits, not least a greater understanding and awareness of the different cultures, history and languages of the towns with whom we are twinned.”

40 years of twinning

The Association was formed in the 1960s. Since then it has built upon its partnerships and is increasing its membership.

There have been many strong friendships formed and at least one marriage.  An annual football match also takes place between staff from Greenwich and Reinickendorf.  Last year Greenwich won the match, which was played in Eltham.

Last November over 100 people attended a fund raising event to celebrate over forty years of successful twinning with towns in Germany, Slovenia and, more recently, Ghana.

Ghana party

In honour of this, the Greenwich Heritage Centre will host a “Ghana Party” on Friday 11 March at 7.30pm. There will be Ghanaian food, music, entertainment and culture to raise funds for strengthening links with Greenwich’s twinned communities.

Tickets are £10 and available from Alan Mills (details below) or Terry Malone on 020 8859 3326 email: terry_malone2005@yahoo.co.uk
