Residents celebrate at Bostall Gardens

The Friends of Bostall Gardens hosted a celebration to mark the completion of refurbishments at the park on Saturday 12 February.
The event was a chance for councillors and park users to thank external funders and local groups and individuals whose voluntary work helped spruce up the park.

Making changes

Changes made include refurbishment of the pavilion building for community use, converting the bowling green into a children's play area and improving security.

The work was funded by a grant of £118,268 from the Onyx Environmental Trust.

Delighted at improvements

Cllr Vicky Morse, Greenwich Council’s cabinet member for culture and community, said, “Local parks are so important for the quality of life, especially in urban areas like Abbey Wood. The strong support enjoyed by the Friends Group shows how appreciated Bostall Gardens is by local residents.

“The refurbishment work has achieved a great degree of improvement in bringing back to life some of the facilities that were in need of renewal.

“The Council is very grateful for the financial support we have received from the Onyx Environmental Trust and for the practical support that local community groups have put in to making the park a place that we can all feel proud of.”

Peter Armstrong-Cribb, chair of the Friends of Bostall Gardens, added, “We’re very pleased at how the partnership between the park users has helped improve the gardens, and delighted at the support from the Onyx Environmental Trust.”

More to come

Further good news came just before Christmas, with the announcement that the park has been awarded a £56,000 grant from the London Marathon Trust to buy and install a multi-purpose ball court. The court is for informal play/sports use and will provides a safe play/sports place for local young people that is away from traffic. Work will begin later in the Spring.
