More Greenwich homes to get solar power

Greenwich Council is installing another 150 homes with solar panels after the successful rollout of Solar Panels to council and housing associations earlier this year.
The homes to benefit will be properties with organisations that have been working as partners to the council on development projects. They include Hyde Housing, Gallions and L & Q.

This project is the continuation of the launch that took place in August and Greenwich is leading the way with the number of homes that have solar energy panels installed. The benefits are huge and savings will be for at least twenty years. It helps reduce the cost of water heating bills as there is no need to rely on the boiler or immersion heater for most of the time during April to October.

Leading the way

Cllr John Fahy, Cabinet Member for Decent Homes said: “Greenwich Council is leading the way in bringing the benefits of using green sources of energy to as many people as possible. This is part of our drive for decent homes as we are committed to improve the standard and efficiency of all our housing.”

There will be an unveiling of the plans at an open day at Charlton House on the 2 August. The day will be for people already identified as having suitable homes.

Investing in the future

Greenwich Council Deputy Leader, Cllr Angela Cornforth, said: “We are investing in the future to make real improvements to all social housing. Solar power is one way that we can make a positive change to the way that we heat homes and I welcome this initiative.”
