What is a World Heritage Site?

A World Heritage Site is an area where the cultural or natural heritage is considered to be of outstanding value to humanity.

Three independent advisory bodies evaluated the Greenwich Maritime area, nominated by the country for inclusion in UNESCO's World Heritage list.

Greenwich is ranked alongside other famous World Heritage Sites including the Pyramids of Egypt, the Great Barrier Reef in Australia and the Great Wall in China.
