Anyone who is interested in rowing should join a local rowing club, whether you are a beginner who wants to learn to row, or an experienced rower interested in competing.

The Trafalgar Rowing Centre, on the Thames next to the Royal Naval College in Greenwich, runs classes for beginners (£3 per class) on Monday evenings from 6.30pm in the summer, and for juniors at 10am on Sunday mornings.

Greenwich Yacht Club meets on Tuesday evenings 8pm to 11pm; new members are welcome. Club boating activity takes place during weekends but members are free to use the facilities every day. Club bar is open Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings.

The club has a full programme of cruiser and dinghy racing in both winter and summer, according to Royal Yachting Association rules.There is also social sailing. Members without their own boats are encouraged to crew in races to gain experience. The club also has its own navigation school for onshore qualifications.
Facilities for hire: the club has a slipway for launching and recovering boats and equipment for taking cruisers in and out of water. Qualified dinghy sailors who are members can also hire dinghies for a small fee. The club has extensive well-equipped workshops.
The club is open to men and women, has an Equal Opportunity and Child Protection policy, and caters for disabled people. It has three qualified sports coaches and all members are helpers.
