Bowling (lawn)

Lawn Bowls

King Henry VIII once banned lawn bowling for all but the wealthiest. The reason he gave: people were spending so much time at it that they were neglecting their jobs.

Happily for today's enthusiasts the ban was lifted in 1845, so we can all enjoy this leisurely outdoor sport.
