Great Get Together comes to Woolwich

Two boys
The summer series of Great Get Together events lands in Woolwich on Saturday 21 June, bringing you a free day of fun and entertainment with a chance to have your say on local issues.
The bumper event takes place at the Royal Artillery Barracks from 11am – 4pm. There will be entertainment and a variety of information stalls.

What's happening?

The range of free entertainment will include:

  • a music stage with local performers and world music acts supported by the Arts Council
  • an Urban Playground – free- running demonstrations and workshops courtesy of Greenwich and Docklands International Festival
  • sports coaching and demonstrations by the Council’s sports legacy team, Greenwich Leisure Limited and local sports clubs
  • The Mandela Unity Cup – a five-a-side football tournament which teams can enter by calling organisers the Care Partnership on 020 8293 5355
  • Charlton Athletic FC inflatable football pitch and beat-the-goalie
  • Army clay pigeon shooting activity
  • local service information stalls including stalls from both TFL and the DLR
  • a Healthy Living Marquee supported by Greenwich Teaching Primary Care Trust
  • Culture Discovery Zone with dance, music and martial arts workshops
  • drumming workshop and performance by Taru Brazil
  • bouncy castle and trampoline
  • prize draw to win tickets to see Kylie Minogue at the O2.
As always there will be plenty of food and drink from a host of food stalls, while information on a range of local services will also be available.

The ever-popular Talk Café, where you can air your views on Council services and have a chat with your local Councillor, will be part of the event.

Cycling theme

The event will also have a cycling theme to co-incide with National Bike Week - one of the UK’s biggest cycling events - that runs from June 14 – 22. Amongst the variety of cycling activities on offer, there will be a chance to take part in pedal-powered vehicle try-out sessions.

Come on down

Council Leader, Chris Roberts, said: "Great Get Togethers offer a fun family day. They’re also an alternative way for residents to give their views and previous events have shown they are very keen to do so.

"This will be the third of the Council’s Get Together events to have taken place over the last month and I would like to encourage everyone to come down and enjoy themselves."
