St Luke's Church

While St Luke's Church, the Parish Church for Charlton, has been mentioned as early as 1077, the present church was built in 1630 with funds left by Charlton House's owner Sir Adam Newton.
Spencer Perceval (1762-1812), the only British Prime Minister to be assassinated, is buried here, and you can find Sir Francis Chantry's sculpture of him in the church.

There is also an impressive monument to Sir Henry Newton, as well as memorials to various military figures.
