Nurseries and childcare

 
Whether you're looking for private, public, part-time or full-time childcare, Greenwich has a wide range of services for you to choose from.  

Nurseries include:

  • Council-run nurseries
  • private and independent nurseries
  • playgroups
  • early learning and Sure Start Children's Centres.
You may also want to ask your employer if there is a crèche where you work.

Three and four-year-olds are entitled to up to 15 hours of free early learning per week.

Ofsted registered

Check that the childcare service you're interested in is registered with Ofsted before you accept a place for your child. Council-run and private nurseries, playgroups, childminders, nurseries, out-of-school playgroups and other schemes for children under eight, and operating over two hours a day, should be registered and inspected by Ofsted.

Ofsted regularly inspects these childcare services and staff are required to have criminal record checks.

Family Information Directory

The Family Information Directory provides comprehensive and up-to-date information on local organisations, services and events relating to children and young people, their parents and carers, and the practitioners who support them.

Play Centres

There are Play Centres for children under 5 that are staffed by experienced early years play workers and offer a wide range of play equipment.

These centres are free and are open Monday to Friday 12.30pm to 3.30pm.

Please note, all children under five must be accompanied by a carer.
