1. School Workforce Team
Teachers have access to support from the School Workforce Team. We are able to offer advice and support on:
NQT Induction
housing
childcare
professional development.
As well as supporting teachers we are responsible for the Continuing Professional Development of support staff. We also coordinate the Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) programme and Support Worker in Schools (SWiS) programmes, amongst other opportunities.
Go to the Teaching Assistants page for more information on support staff.
2. NQT induction programme
Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs) will find Greenwich a fantastic place to begin their career. Greenwich has developed an extensive centralised induction programme for primary and secondary NQTs, designed to complement the support provided in school.
We work hard to ensure the statutory requirements are not only met but are exceeded, to ensure a positive and rewarding experience for all involved.

3. Inner London pay scale
Teachers in Greenwich schools are paid on the Inner London Pay Scale.
Salaries from 1 September 2008 are:
M1 - £25,000
M2 - £26,581
M3 - £28,261
M4 - £30,047
M5 - £32,358
M6 - £34,768
4. Professional Development Centre
The
Greenwich Professional Development Centre
provides access to resources, training and information for all aspects of the curriculum and for continuing professional development for all school staff.
A dedicated website allows staff to view what training opportunities are available and to request a place on a course, as well as view all courses they have attended previously.
Staff at the PDC work with other Children’s Services colleagues to ensure the provision of training meets the demands and needs of schools. The PDC has recently been awarded the status of NVQ Centre, and delivers a qualification for Learning Mentors.
5. Housing
The School Workforce Strategy Team:
works closely with internal and external partners to collate information about accommodation available to teachers
actively supports the government-funded Housing Options Scheme, which includes initiatives such as shared ownership, equity loans towards the cost of the home and rental options.
Go to the Housing Options website for further information
.
6. Childcare
We have a number of Early Years Centres, before and after school play clubs and adventure play centres.
Teachers also have priority at the private nursery at Eltham Green School, a fee-paying nursery available for staff only.
7. Sharing best practice, staff wellbeing and support
Greenwich supports schools in achieving work-life balance for their staff in a number of ways.
We hold a residential NQT conference each year. This conference allows NQTs to network with colleagues, and other education professionals, as well as participate in some reflective and innovative sessions.
The first conference for teachers in their 2nd and 3rd years of their career was held in 2008. The focus was early professional development and leadership. This pilot conference will help shape a developing Early Professional Development programme to be rolled out to all schools to support those coming out of their NQT year.
A popular annual CPD conference is held in the summer term. Senior school staff are the target audience and this high-profile conference will be offered to a wider audience for the first time this year. The keynote speaker will be Estelle Morris.
Many other opportunities for staff to participate in wider initiatives and training arise throughout the year.
8. Season ticket loans
We offer interest free season ticket loans. Schools have further details of how to apply.
9. Golden Hello
The Government operates a Golden Hello scheme for NTQs.
Visit the training and Development Agency for Schools website for more information on the Golden Hello scheme
.
