NQT induction support programme

Greenwich has developed an extensive centralised programme for primary and secondary NQTs, designed to complement the support provided in school. We work hard to ensure the statutory requirements are not only met, but exceeded, to ensure a positive and rewarding experience for all involved.

The NQT Induction Support Programme is an individualised programme of support, monitoring and guidance. It can only begin once QTS (qualified teacher status) has been awarded, this means all skills tests, in addition to the teacher training programme, must have been successfully completed. The induction period must be equivalent to one academic year, or pro-rata if part time.

Download more information about new induction guidance from the Teachernet website.

Induction tutor

Schools must assign an induction tutor to NQTs, they will provide guidance and effective, individualised support. They are likely to undertake most of the observations necessary to monitor progress and write assessment reports. The induction tutor will discuss the CEDP (Career Entry and Development Profile) and help identify individual strengths and development needs.

Welcome reception

NQTs will be invited to a welcome reception, held in Greenwich Professional Development Centre. This will give you the chance to meet key council personnel as they will use this opportunity to introduce themselves to you.

Following this, the primary programme runs most weeks, and covers a huge range of areas to support you, such as behaviour management, ICT, assessment for learning, educational inclusion, PE, music, art and design and many more.

The secondary programme runs slightly differently as secondary schools are better suited to run individualised programmes. There are fewer centralised sessions for all to attend, but more subject specific days are held in various schools, and more in-school support is provided.
