Standard admissions policies

Decisions about offers of places in community schools and The John Roan School are the responsibility of Greenwich Council.

Priority order

If there are more applicants than places available, priority within each ability band will be given in the following order:

1. Looked after children.

A ‘looked after child’ is a child who is in care of a local authority, including foster care.

2. Children who have a sibling (brother or sister) who will be on roll at the school at the time of the child’s admission.

Brother or sister means a full, half, step, long-term fostered, adopted or child living at the same address. This does not include pupils attending for sixth form studies.

3. Children who live nearest to the school.

Distance from home to school is measured electronically by officers in the Council’s Admissions Section. Measurement will be according to a straight line between the child’s home and the main entrance of the school.

Applicants may be given higher priority on the grounds of professionally supported medical or social need for that particular school. The Medical/Social Secondary Transfer Panel will have to consider advice offered by social workers, health visitors and other professionals.
