Standard admissions policies

Decisions about offers of places in community schools are the responsibility of Greenwich Council. If there are more applicants than places available, priority will be given in the following order:

1. Looked after children.

A 'looked after child' is a child who is in care of a local authority, including foster care.

2. Children who have a sibling (brother or sister) who will be on roll at the school at the time of the child’s admission.

Brother or sister means a full, half, step, long-term fostered, adopted or child living at the same address.

3. Children for whom it is the nearest Greenwich community school

If it is necessary to choose between children within this group, priority will normally go to those who live nearest to the school.

4. Other applicants ranked according to home/school distance

Distance from home to school is measured electronically by officers in the Council’s Admissions Section. Measurement will be according to a straight line between the child’s home and the main entrance of the school.

Medical or social reasons

Within points 3 and 4, applicants may be given higher priority on the grounds of professionally supported medical or social need for that particular school.

The Medical/Social Admissions Panel will consider advice offered by social workers, health visitors and other professionals.
