Why rebuild schools?

Greenwich inherited some poor quality stock when responsibility for schools was transferred to local councils from the Inner London Education Authority in the early 1990s.

Modern, sustainable schools

The poor building stock has - at times - undermined some of the excellent work which takes place in our schools. Building Schools for the Future means teachers and students will get buildings of the quality they truly deserve.

Meeting the needs of local children

Greenwich has also placed a high priority on raising standards and ensuring that every child receives a first-class education. Well-designed school buildings will give this priority a real boost.

Raising standards throughout the borough

There is also an expected growth in population due to new housing developments in the borough, which will mean a growth in demand for school places. Building Schools for the Future will ensure that every one of these children can be offered a place at a state of the art, well-designed school.
