Tonia Paolozzi Wilson

Our interviewee for August is Tonia Paolozzi Wilson, who has been a member of the reading group at Blackheath library for 6 months.

What was your favourite book as a child?

'Alice in Wonderland' by Lewis Carroll

Do you remember the first book you read?

I can't really remember - but at school 'Janet and John' books seemed to figure largely!

Where do you do most of your reading?

In bed before I go to sleep.

Some people have unusual habits while reading. Is there anything you do while you read?

Not that I know of!

Which author would you most like to meet and why?

E.Annie Proulx. I'd like to ask her how she came to write books late in life, and how she copes with literary 'celebrity' when she seems to be such a reticent person

What sort of books do you like to read?

I don't really go for any particular genre. Going to a reading group gives me the opportunity to try novels that I wouldn't necessarily have picked up at the library

If you were washed up on a desert island which 8 books would you want to have with you?

  1. The Bible
  2. The Complete Works of Shakespeare (just like Desert Island Discs!)
  3. Titus Groan by Mervyn Peake
  4. 100 years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
  5. Accordion Crimes by E. Annie Proulx
  6. Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte
  7. Eva Luna by Isabelle Allende
  8. Stone Diaries by Carol Shields
Is there one book you couldn't be without?

Not really

What was the last book you read?

What Was Lost by Catherine O'Flynn

What do you do with a book when you have finished reading it?

I either return it to my bookshelf or library or lend it to a friend

Do you belong to a reading group?

Yes

Do you buy or borrow books?

Both
