Thrilled: pupils with their GCSE results
Local pupils and schools are celebrating with the news that GCSE results in the borough made a significant improvement this year.
A record number of students achieved 5 or more good GCSEs.
Percentage points
Most schools are reporting substantial GCSE pass rates. The number of pupils receiving the benchmark 5 A*-C GCSEs has jumped by 10.3 percentage points from 47.2% in 2007 to 57.5% this year.
The figure including the core subjects of English and Maths has risen to 40.2%.
X Factor
The results also reflect the success of the Council’s X Factor scheme, which used a variety of measures to support pupils and schools, help raise attainment and improve the opportunities for pupils to achieve in the future.
