Licensing for shared accommodation

When lots of 'family units' live under the same roof, it is described as a house in multiple occupation (HMO). An example would be a student flat share.

To make sure that HMOs are well managed, the government has introduced a licensing system.

Who needs a licence?

At the moment, only larger properties need a licence. See Do I need a licence?

There are certain conditions and standards that your property must meet.
