Building alterations
If you are planning to make any alterations to the structure of your home, it is important that you contact us first. This is because, under the terms of your lease, you must obtain permission from the Council, as your landlord, before any work begins.
Information on landlord's consent for alterations can be found in your lease. You can get further information by contacting Home Ownership Services on 020 8921 4036.
Unauthorised building alterations
We receive a number of applications from leaseholders requesting landlord's consent for building alterations after the works have taken place.
Unauthorised alterations can cause problems, in particular when you try to sell your home. For example, if you have altered the internal walls, the layout of your home would no longer match the lease plan which forms an important part of the lease.
There is an administration fee payable when requesting landlord's consent, please note that this fee is higher when consent is requested after the works have taken place.
Building control and planning consent
Certain types of home alterations will also need to be referred to the
building control
and
planning consent
departments.
