Neighbourhood Pride

Over the last five years, scores of residents have been getting together to look after local streets, landmarks, open spaces and community gardens - keeping them clear of litter, graffiti and saving them from neglect.

It’s all part of the Neighbourhood Pride project.

People clearing gardenNeighbourhood Pride aims to help  you develop action plans and volunteer to carry out a range of projects that can make a difference to the quality of life in your area.

The scheme holds monthly meetings where you can suggest, and volunteer for, the jobs you want done.

These can range from:

  • cleaning up graffiti
  • picking up litter
  • caring for community gardens
  • decorating community halls.
Or you can use the meetings to get to know each other better by organising a community social.

Involving young people

People clearing gardenNeighbourhood Pride recognises that the youth of today are the leaders of tomorrow.

One important element of the scheme is to encourage and involve local children and young people so they feel they can make a contribution to improving their neighbourhoods.

Last year eight neighbourhood projects were run in the Glyndon and Abbey Wood areas.
They included shrub-clearing, a street party, litter-picking, general tidying up in Rudd Street, Woolwich, and decoration at the Polthorne Community Rooms.
