Priority need

 
We would normally give priority to someone if he or she is:

  • an expectant mother or resides with, or might reasonably be expected to reside with, a pregnant woman
  • vulnerable due to old age (ie over 60), physical disability, mental illness or handicap, or other special reasons
  • reasonably expected to reside with, or resides with, someone who is vulnerable
  • aged 16 or 17 and not a relevant child*
  • aged 18 to 21 and a former relevant child*
  • vulnerable due to having been looked after, accommodated or fostered
or has:

  • dependant children living with him/her or who might reasonably be expected to live with him/her
  • served in the armed forces
  • served a custodial sentence
  • been on remand
  • had to cease to occupy accommodation due to violence or threats of violence
  • had to cease to occupy accommodation due to harassment, threats or intimidation
*A relevant child is a child aged 16 or 17 who has been looked after by a local authority for at least 13 weeks since the age of 14 and has been looked after some time while 16 and 17 and who is not currently being looked after.

People with special housing needs (ie. learning difficulties, victims of domestic violence etc) may be able to get extra help from the supporting people project
