In 2004, the Council carried out a consultation on the future of housing in Greenwich.
This was in response to the Government's Decent Homes scheme. The scheme requires that every Council home in the borough is brought up to a decent standard by 2010.

Funding
In order to pay for the work required to achieve the standard, the Council had to consider various funding options. These included:
- transferring large parts of the housing stock
- getting private sector investment
- setting up a management company.

Housing to stay with the Council
The consultation made it clear that most tenants preferred to keep housing within the Council.
The Cabinet has agreed and will now spend more than £200m upgrading the stock.
