Thinking about buying your Council home?

If you have been renting your Council or housing association home for at least 2 years, you may be entitled to buy your property at a discounted price.

If your tenancy began on or after 18 January 2005, you will have to wait for 5 years to qualify for right to buy.

Your discount is based on the number of years you have spent as a public sector tenant.

Where can I get help?

The Right to Buy team will be happy to give advice and guide you through the right to buy process.

They will:

  • confirm if you are eligible for right to buy
  • arrange for your property to be valued
  • inform you of the price of your home
  • calculate the discount you are entitled to.

Is it right for me?

There are lots of things to consider when thinking about buying your home. Make sure you are aware of the ownership costs before you make your decision.
