If you have had any contact with social services at Greenwich, a record of your case will have been kept. In most cases you can see all the information we have about you. But there are some circumstances where information may not be released to you, including:

  • Information about other people, or information given about you by another person who may not have agreed to share it with you
  • It may be unlawful to let you see information where there are ongoing legal proceedings
  • Where sharing the information may cause harm to you or other people, or reveal the identity of a person who gave information confidentially
  • Information may have been destroyed under the department’s document destruction policy
If you currently receive a social service and would like to see your records, you should talk to your social worker or a care manager who knows you. If not, please send your request to:

Your request will be acknowledged within five working days. Once we have located your file, we will contact you in writing, offering you to make arrangements for the release of the file to you. You may bring a friend, relative or representative with you.

Data protection and freedom of information

Our procedure for access to records is in accordance with the Council's Data Protection Policy.

You have rights to access information held by the Council which are granted in the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
