Welfare rights and benefits advice

Being registered blind does not automatically entitle you to any welfare benefits.

However, being registered blind or partially sighted can mean you are eligible for some assistance.

Disability Living Allowance

If you are registered as blind or partially sighted and are not receiving Disability Living Allowance (if aged under 65) or Attendance Allowance for people aged over 65, you may wish to apply.

Application forms can be requested from:
The Benefits Agency
Tel:  0800 882200

If you need advice about completing the forms, there are a number of agencies that employ specialist benefits advisors who can help you:

Action for Blind People produce informative fact sheets which can be collected from our offices, posted to you by contacting them directly, or downloaded from their website, which is listed on the right.
