Mental health support for older people

How can I get help, support and advice?

Talk to your GP first. If you are in touch with a care manager, or anyone in the Council's Adults and Older People's Service, you can discuss your concerns with them. They will tell you whether they feel a referral to a specialist service will help.

Specialist services for borough residents are provided by Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust and Greenwich Council for older people with more complex mental health problems.

The service sees people with a range of mental health needs, including:

  • anxiety
  • depression
  • dementia with behaviour problems
  • memory problems
  • other serious mental health problems such as schizophrenia
All new referrals to the service are made through the Community Mental Health Team.

Contact the team

There is a single access point for referral to the team, which is based in the Memorial Hospital site. You can contact the team on:

Tel: 020 8836 8670 or 020 8836 8671

Opening hours:

Monday to Friday: 9am to 5pm.

This is an integrated health and social care service and is made up of community psychiatric nurses, social workers, occupational therapists, clinical psychologists and doctors.
