FAQ
How can community care help?
There has been a policy of slowly closing the old style mental health hospitals and replacing them with care in the community.
This means, that as much as possible, people who experience mental health problems are able to stay in their own home and use the local services such as crisis and day centres, counselling, drop-ins, self-help groups and community mental health nurses.
The local health authority and other voluntary organisations can provide the above services. Further information is also available in our
Community Care
section.
To access these services you will need to visit your GP first for an assessment of your needs or contact Greenwich Social Services for advice on
020 8921 3124.
