Headlice treatment
Wet combing method
Using this method every three days for two complete weeks can clear headlice. This method can also be used to detect headlice.
All you need is ordinary shampoo, conditioner, a wide-tooth comb and a fine-tooth detection comb.
Wash and rinse hair, then use lots of conditioner and a wide-tooth comb to straighten and untangle hair. Do this bowed over a sink or sitting up, whichever is the most comfortable.
Leave the conditioner in the hair. Switch to the detection comb.
Slot the teeth into the hair right at the roots, touching the scalp gently but firmly.
Draw the comb through to the tips of the hair.
Check the comb for lice between each stroke and clear them by wiping on kitchen paper or rinsing.
Continue combing and checking until the whole head has been well combed. Rinse.
Leave hair dripping wet. Use a wide-tooth comb to straighten and untangle hair again.
The wetter the better! Repeat detection combing to detect any lice missed before.
You must repeat the above steps every three days for a fortnight. This treatment can rid the hair of headlice without using insecticides.
If you still find lice, or need more advice at the end of the treatment, contact the Headlice Helpline using the contact information on the right.
